Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! (english below)

Man, what a great event Fuchtorf 2022 was. I do not know where to start. First of all it was great to meet all the Pulling crazy people again. In order to be able to exchange a few sentences with everyone, it would actually take a week or more.

You could tell from all(!) that they really wanted to experience pulling. How crowded it was on Saturday…and even the smallest garden puller was celebrated like a Eurocup participant…really, you guys are just party people!

It was a special pleasure for us to hear how much encouragement we get for this homepage and also the YouTube videos. Crazy. And yes, I got the message…we’re supposed to be making videos again. More on that later.

Like the days before Füchtorf, this post will be a little chaotic. But let’s start harmlessly first.

We cook methanol soup. The test runs have carried some methanol into the engine oil. That has to go. The method is simple and effective. It’s just boiled out.

So sieht es noch zu Beginn aus….

That´s what it looks like in the beginning…

Abzüglich Toleranz passt das ganz genau. Methanol siedet bei 65°C

Except for the tolerance, it fits perfectly. Methanol boils at 65°C

We go up to just over 100°C to get out the water that is produced from the combustion of methanol and also bypasses the piston rings.

„Children, the soup is ready!“ It is filled into the engine via a pump that pushes the oil through a filter again to keep out any dust etc. that may have been brought in.

Die Turbolader sind zurück von Thomy Mathmann! Vielen, vielen Dank für die geile Arbeit!

The turbochargers are back from Thomy Mathmann! Thank you very much for the awesome work!

Graphite seals for the exhaust manifold to the turbocharger….one of the dozens of little things that eat up time without end….

Since our mini semitrailer is still not ready *grml*, we have to fall back on plan B. But to be able to load the tractor onto plan B, a winch is needed. This one is from a country where they definitely eat with chopsticks. The quality…really bad, of course. Ideally, it only has to work exactly twice.

Dank sinnreicher Erweiterungen mit Stahlstücken….

Thanks to clever extensions with pieces of steel….

…you can now mount the winch on our front towing eye.

It even looks a little neat that way.

The stainless steel expansion tanks for the brake cylinders have also taken place on the tractor.

Here are the pictures of the garbage that we then produced during the final test run. You see: A reverse gear or what is left of it. But we have already dealt with that in the previous post. I say yes, it will be a little chaotic 😉 😉

Geputzt und fertig zum Verladen.

Cleaned and ready for loading.

Doch auf was soll verladen werden?

But what should be loaded?

A chic 12-ton truck! At this point, a big thank you to Kevin Steinberg and our company neighbor Gerüstbau Steinberg. You really saved our ass with the truck!

Enter the Winch!
Well, what can I say…. Of course it didn’t work out as planned. Of course, the winches only have their nominal power with the first layer of rope. With each further one the drum diameter increases and that’s the end of it all….*grml*

Well, with the help of a forklift, it worked out. And since we are going to Füchtorf, where forklifts, tractors and telehandlers are kept in abundance, we should get it down there again.

Zeitsprung!

Timeskip! We have arrived safely in Füchtorf. Just under 2 hours drive although we were only traveling at 80 km/h. Driving a truck is also cool in a way: The traffic jam is always behind you 😉 😉

We’re going back in time! It’s no longer Friday afternoon, but Saturday morning and the little Schluckspecht is already in the pre-start area.

Honestly, I’m really sorry, but I almost didn’t take any pictures. After all the loading, driving, unloading, the only thing that we want to do was ending the evening with a group of friends with a cold beer. We were kindly provided with some video material of the runs of the tractors. I’ll try to make a nice video out of it. Just take a moment.

Ok, I took a few pictures. Among other things, from a completely new building by Hagie, who screwed together an ultra-cool compact diesel with a Deutz look. In Füchtorf he was hooked for the first time. Congratulations on the awesome tractor!

Without knowing it, I don’t believe that what’s on the inside of the canisters is what’s on it 😉 😉

Long before the start of the official event, the arena is already very well visited!

This is what it looks like from the driver’s point of view… in case you’ve always wanted to know.

As in Sonsbeck, Alex drives the small tractor. Unfortunately we had to struggle with some technical problems. The starter didn’t want to work like we did and the tractor didn’t really want to start either. After some hectic error analysis, Alex then burned a monster pull into the track.

It didn’t go so smoothly though 😉 😉
Oil seems to have come out of every hole in the engine. Alex didn’t see anything halfway through because his helmet visor was completely covered in oil… Of course he didn’t slow down, but unfortunately he drove off the track. To this day I have no idea where all the oil came from. After all, it was so much that we took care of the first fire brigade operation in Füchtorf 2022: Oil rescue service 😉 😉

What really annoys me is that we don’t have any data from the run. The connection to the laptop was lost. A first assumption is that the head has lifted and released the oil gallery. We will examine this in more detail.

Unfortunately we were disqualified because we drove off the track. I still see it positively. After Anholt in 2019, we were able to show the performance of the little Schluckspecht for the first time.

Immediately after the garden pulling we had to get the big Schluckspecht ready to go. One could almost speak of stress we had 😉 😉

It went very quickly over the scale. We should have our maidenrun in the 3.5t Limited Modified class.

Roughly outlined, this is an entry-level class in which the vehicles are allowed to weigh 3.5 tons. A wide range of engines is permitted. Technical solutions (e.g. air mass limiters/restrictors) cap the performance at approx. 2000 hp so that the class remains cost-effective and no material battle breaks out.

We were positively surprised by our weight. Including me as a driver we were at 2540kg. That’s a whole lot lighter than expected. This is completely irrelevant for the Limited Modified, but our actual class is the Light Modified, in which we are allowed to hook on with 2,600kg.

Here’s a look at the competitors…

Here is a small video snippet from the very first run with the big tractor. The engine was still super tame. Limiter at 2,500 rpm and 1.5 bar boost pressure. That’s just enough for a sunday ride 😉 😉

The engine immediately went into the limiters (RPM and boost pressure), and the run was correspondingly restless, which was then ended after a few meters by the emergency stop of the sled. However, that had nothing to do with our driving style, but with a defect in the sled. Luckily for us, this sled had to be replaced.

So I was able to quietly withdraw to a separate container with a laptop and the data I had acquired and adjust the software. Fuel seemed to fit well. So 400 rpm and half a bar more boost pressure was allowed. Just in time for the restart of the class, we were done. The result:

How cool was that please?

Halfway through the run I took some throttle out for a little while to get the tractor a little calmer. It didn’t want to stop anymore…..3rd place at the first start in this class!!! I would never have dreamed of that.

Our fans obviously didn’t either… The return trip along the spectators made up for all the hours we spent working on the engine! Thanks for that!!!!

Da isser, der POTT! Geil!

There it is, the CUP! Cool!
I almost missed the award ceremony. I didn’t even know we had won anything. If you drive yourself you don’t really notice anything 😉 😉

Before we could celebrate the success, we had to do some more work.

The welds on the shaft guard were broken. In the future we need to make it all more flexible…..

….but now we needed a quick solution to be able to hook on in the Light Modified the next day. It’s just really cool when you have a complete metal construction workshop right on the competition site.

Sehr sehr geil!

At this point many, many thanks to the Greenmonster team whose workshop we were allowed to use! Very very cool!

Quickly reassemble everything and then have one or the other „refreshing“ drink. 😉 😉

The shaft brake, which was completed at the last minute, seems to be working. At least the colors suggest so. 😉 😉

When darkness fell, one of those stories that life writes began. I would like to paraphrase it like this: Since we had a lot to celebrate, it turned out to be a few more „refreshing“ drinks. And it turned out later than planned
😉 😉

It’s Sunday morning!

The Light Modified class was the second of the day and so we had to weigh the scales quite early. Simon came to visit and suddenly started to laugh: „Stefan, you have to test for alcohol!“ I still thought it was a joke, because I couldn’t see anything in the waiting line in front of the scales.

No Joke!! Blow into the pipe once please! Well, unfortunately it was still 0.25 alcohol per thousand. It would have been enough for car driving, but safety comes first when pulling. It’s kind of understandable. In a way, you drive around with a few dozen cars at the same time….at least in terms of performance
😉 😉

Alex was a little smarter the night before, drank less and went to bed earlier…. no alcohol in the blood. With that, Alex won the ride on the Schluckspechtzeraptor
😉 😉

These pictures explain why he was „a bit“ nervous about it:

I’ve experienced a lot, but the Füchtorf Arena has never been so packed at noon. Crazy. Thousands of people who want to see pulling!

OK, it’s better to hide them when you’re sitting on the tractor
😉 😉

The fact that the starting field was extremely top-class didn’t make things better with Alex’s nervousness 😉 😉

In diesem Sinne: Bleibt dran!

Shortly before the start.
What happened then, I think we’ll discuss that again in a YouTube video. 😉 😉
With this in mind: Stay tuned!
