The last event of the season is also over with Schlechtenwegen. It’s going into the winter break. Well, you can’t really call it a break considering what we’re planning. But more on that later. Before we talk about what happened in Schlechtenwegen, here are a few moving pictures.

At this point a big thank you to Stephan Görtz from Pullingpics for the video! Click on the picture to get started.

But before we could even get started, the mini saddle caused problems again after driving a few kilometers. The return line of the injectors was leaking. To make matters worse, it started raining during the repair…just awesome.

After a nerve-wracking route through the Kassel mountains (negative speed record: 38km/h… on the highway 😉 ), we arrived safely and were able to end the day with a few refreshing drinks.

On Saturday we hooked up with the little tractor. Piloted not by a half-naked Simon, but like in Sonsbeck by Andreas Rötter. To cut a long story short: The tractor didn’t want to work. Despite a total of 4 attempts, the engine could not be persuaded to cooperate. When turned it up it just kept shutting off. I’m just guessing it’s a totally stupid fault to find in the electrical system…..*grml* Well, that’s just pulling 😉

We then did a nice show run with the big tractor on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the hope in the new tires was dashed: the tractor still vibrates like crazy.

Then on Sunday morning during the routine check the shock came. The manifold to the turbo simply vibrated off. So not just a crack, but off! What happened next probably only works in pulling. The Schlechtenwegen team pulled out all the stops and towed us into the village with the service tractor where we were able to weld the manifold. Crazy. A huge thank you to the whole team and to the Boss Vacuum company who made this possible!

I didn’t necessarily weld it nicely… but it was just supposed to hold 😉 😉 We were then pulled straight into the preparation room. The Limited Modifieds were the second class of the day….and the first was already running 😉

What Simon didn’t know until the evening before: He was supposed to drive the big tractor 😉

We couldn’t have imagined what happened next. The German championship in the 3.5t Limited Modified class is not based on points, but you have to qualify for the final.
A bit complicated, but just this: We weren’t qualified.

We wouldn’t have had a chance against the 800kg heavier competitors anyway… or so we thought. The first attempt in the preliminary run with a measly 65m should confirm our opinion.
But releasing just 0.05 bar of air pressure from the tires changed everything! For the first 20m we had no grip at all but then the tractor jumped once, the nose went up and the tires started to work… and how. A whopping full pull!

By the way, he was the only one in the class and therefore a sure win of the day. If someone had told us that beforehand, we would have called them crazy.

So we not only had a really good end to the season, but we almost even became German champions 😉 😉 Next year we’d better qualify for the finals 😉

That brings us to a first look at what’s coming up now. Basically both tractors remained intact.
For the little one, I’m thinking about a conversion to the EMU Black engine control including a completely new wiring harness.
With the big one, some small construction sites will have to be taken care of. Raise the towing eye at the front, new toothed sleeves, properly weld the manifold, etc.
The biggest construction site will probably be the valve train. After consulting with Henrik Larsen from the Truckpower team, my next suspicion for the vibrations lies in the valve springs, which are far too weak.
The engine may also get the new pistons in the same breath. Just to test them.
And above all there is the construction of an “all-in-transmash” for the former Le Coiffeur chassis. You definitely won’t get bored.
In that sense: stay tuned!

Sonsbeck 23, der Kleine hat gewonnen!

Sonsbeck 23, the little one won! (english below)

Hello, friends of pulling sports! What a great and successful weekend that was.

But let’s start slowly. Saturday morning we drove off at the crack of dawn and were lucky that we were able to get onto the site. It had rained quite unexpectedly and extremely heavily a few hours earlier.

For this reason, the event started two hours later than planned. In these two hours, the people from Sonsbeck moved heaven and earth to get the paddock, paths and track in a usable condition. And how that worked! At this point, a huge compliment to the entire Trecker Treck Sonsbeck team, crazy how you managed it!

At least we could unload in peace and prepare for the garden pulling. Since Alex was absent due to illness and both Simon and I weigh too much, we asked Thorsten Schlarbaum if he would like to drive the little Schluckspecht. In our early days he gave us so many valuable tips and helped where he could… But since he was also at the start with his Red Raptor, Andreas Roetter was allowed to drive. He also has a lot of experience with wild turbo tractors 😉

And so what I hadn’t thought possible happened: After a brilliant full pull in the pre-run, we actually won the jump-off before Insanity! The Big Bang! Our big thanks go to Dennis Dülger and Phillip Schilling from Insanity, who quickly lent us a replacement ignition coil before the finale. Very cool action!

But then a little hectic broke out. Actually, a larger farmer class should be driven between the Gardenpulling and the Limited Modified. However, due to the delayed start of the event, it was postponed to the next day.

So before the award ceremony it was time to sprint to the big tractor, refuel, tech and safety check and off to the scales. The class was already running when we were pulled into the prep room. Despite the hustle and bustle, we were able to do a sovereign full pull in the lead. But the fan club that came here especially in the form of my family wouldn’t have let anything else get through 😉 😉

Vielen Dank! Start mit einem Klick aufs Bild.

We were then able to end the final with a super second place. At this point a big congratulations to the still quite new Blackout and his driver/team. You put a mighty diesel pig on the track 😉

We were able to end the very successful day with a few refreshing drinks and a very cool pulling program.

The next day, the Light Modified was still on the program for us. After evaluating the data from Saturday, we didn’t change much at all. Since the class is driven without restrictors, a significantly higher boost pressure should occur by itself.

That’s how it was then, only on the one hand there was no acceptable distance with a little over 60m, on the other hand I had to realize to my disillusionment that the vibration and shaking had become almost even more violent.

Despite a blown charge air hose and a bent dashboard, we went into the second run. The result was pretty much the same.

But enough babble. Mr. Jo has kindly uploaded a detailed summary of our runs for us. Thank you! Start with a click on the picture.

Now a few words from a technical point of view. The conversion measures on the small Schluckspecht have turned out to be a complete success. With 6 bar fuel pressure, the nozzle utilization has reduced from 100% at 3 bar to 75% and is therefore a healthy range.

The new power supply also delivered electricity without a significant drop in voltage.

And as you saw, you saw nothing. The new, again enlarged crankcase ventilation with catch tank seems to work great. However, the hose is not up to the probably quite hot blow-by gases and melted. 😉 We have to go there again.

The axis did a great job. The tractor ran nice and straight and no suspicious noises can be made out.

The ignition system is causing me a bit of concern. In the final, just like in the pre runs, a cylinder dropped out. Pre run cylinder 3, final cylinder 4. I’m afraid that the ignition coils don’t want to join our madness 😉

We shot our reverser (once again) at the big Schluckspecht. The gear doesn’t go in or out. And that we can’t get rid of the vibration is slowly getting on my nerves. We’re going to pull the rip cord now before we damage the tractor even more. The Puller 2000 come on it. Yes, exactly the ones I really didn’t want to tackle anymore. So we have to drive outside of the ranking in the Light Modified, for the Limited Modified it fits in terms of weight. It remains exciting. In other words: stay tuned!

Hello friends of pulling sports! It was just the hammer right at the start of the season. After so many months, finally meeting the Pulling crazy people again, talking stupid stuff and slamming pulls into the track.

We even managed to record several hours of video material this year. We now have to process all the impressions, data and videos and then gradually work through everything.

Just a short summary in advance: The little Schluckspecht actually ran quite well and apparently even seems to be intact. There was at least a temporary suspicion that we melted the pistons. We’re getting stand now, just not enough fuel in the engine. The nozzles were 100% utilized. We urgently need to work on that.

With the big Schluckspechtzeraptor we have massive vibrations on the rear axle. They urgently need to be turned off, they just shake everything to pieces… including the driver. I’m afraid that’s also the reason for the motor control failures that we had on both(!) banks. Have fun and run the video at 1/4 speed. It shakes that you think that the tractor breaks into pieces. Nevertheless, it was enough for a grandiose 3rd place! More on that in later reports. But first the video of Mr. Jo.
