Hello friends of pulling sports! It was just awesome! Sonsbeck is now almost a week ago and here is just a small overview of the event and everything that was done in the run-up to it. Unfortunately we haven’t shot a video yet, but I’ll see if I can find time. We currently have a construction site at home. Children’s room comes first! 😉

Luckily, you can rely on Mr.Jo! He created a super compilation of our runs in no time at all. Thanks a lot for this! Get started wit

Was war passiert?

The arrival on Saturday morning was quicker than expected despite the A2 being blocked. Without any police control 😉 We even had time to look a little at the garden pullers before things got serious for the first time on Saturday evening. The Limited Modified Class was on the program. As a reminder for those who don’t know yet: In this (beginner’s) class, the tractors, including driver and fuel, have a permissible total weight of 3.5 tons and an output limited to approx. 2000 hp by air mass limiters.

In order to generate consistent data (and that’s the only reason we do this sport
😉 😉 ) we didn’t put ballast on and drove with 2.6 tons. The result can be seen in the video. Our luck was simply that the track was very hard on Saturday night and had little grip. This is very beneficial to our setup with high wheel speed. What we lack in weight, we make up for in momentum.

In a really exciting competition, The Bear from Luxembourg, Bad Boy from Schleswig Holstein and we settled for the podium among ourselves. All 3 tractors stood together up to 80cm. At this point it should also be mentioned that Windup! is making tremendous progress and is picking up speed. These will be hard times for us
😉

In the end, the result was clear: First place! Super cool!

Since the pranksters from Sonsbeck thought they had to drive the Light Modified class first thing on Sunday morning and we were even allowed to open the day of the event as the first starter, the victory celebration was rather poor. We’ll have to catch up on that some other time
😉

On Sunday morning we got up quite early. Get the tractor ready, put on your racing clothes and off you go over the scales. Both the actual run on Saturday and the data raised hopes for a strong performance in the Light Modified. With our Alky Transmash we wanted to at least put an exclamation mark against some of the top European teams. Haughtiness comes before the event. It turned out very differently.

Push the gas in front of the sled, turn the wheels, the nose goes up, the engine speed drops and the pull is over before it has even started.

What happened? Look at laptop and data. We just don’t seem to have enough power to keep the wheels turning. The reason was found quickly. On Saturday the track was so hard that the top tractors could not have driven on Sunday. Therefore it was milled, watered, compacted until late on Saturday evening….

The desired result came in the form of a particularly putty and grippy track. So kitty and grippy that we just didn’t have enough power.

For the second attempt we then lowered the drawbar by 4 cm. The run was better, but still far from good. We took homework with us 😉

At this point a thank you again to the Sonsbecker team for putting such a coolly organized event on its feet!

Tires are the issue. Before it went to Sonsbeck, a puncture had to be repaired. Of course, once the tire is off, you have to weigh it right away.

Ready for mounting, the complete wheel weighs 160.8 kg. That’s really light…we’ll see why in a moment.

Erstmal alle Schrauben raus…..

First all the screws out…..

…oder was noch davon über war.

…or what was left of it.

All sorts of broken, rusted screw fragments have collected between the rim and tire. That will not work….

Also must der komplette Reifen auseinander…

So the complete tire has to be disassembled…

…to make sure that there are no more screw pieces in the tire. Of course everything was full of crap *grml*

Nur das Gummi: 120,4 Kg

Rubber only: 120,4 Kg

Felge alleine: 25,8 Kg

Rim only: 25,8 Kg

Schlauch: 13,8 Kg

Tube: 13,8 Kg

But we also have Puller 2000 on the shelves. Possibly the opportunity to mount them….

…Pustkuchen.

…puff cake. The rubber alone weighs as much as the complete wheel with the old Firestone 8Ply.

Also pfuschen.

So we have to get the tires in which the rim has rotated and all pull the screws out or broke them off back on track. So bungle. The tires are normal for the container.

Erstmal ein wenig glatt schleifen.

Sand it down a little first.

The groove is then filled with a permanently elastic sealant. As I said: botch 😉

In order to somehow get the tire firmly on the rim, it should also be glued. only with what? These 3 candidates face a not at all standardized test 😉

After curing and a strictly calibrated test hand, the winner was clear: the good old Sikaflex.

Die Auflageflächen der Reifenwulst wurden entsprechend vorbereitet.

The contact surfaces of the tire bead have been prepared accordingly.

After all the rubbish had been sucked out of the tires (Where did Alex actually go? 😉 ), assembly could begin.

Surprisingly, with a little persuasion, such a tire can be pulled onto the rim quite well. I didn’t think so.

Jede Menge Sikaflex rein….

Lots of Sikaflex in….

…und aufpumpen.

….and inflate.

But which screws should we use? After I made a few attempts, it turned out to be the one with the large, flat pan head.

A small tube was used to ensure that drilling was really only through the rim 😉
Since the rubber on the tire bead was so broken, we also screwed it through the rim flange into the „healthy“ rubber.

With a few exceptions, the screws in the right tire were still tight.

Of course, the tire then got the upgrade with the screw connection through the rim flange.

So the butt looks like a tractor again 😉 😉
What do we still have?

Simon polished, varnished and touched up like crazy. I would say the mini saddle looks almost new from the outside!

So that it will soon look like new from the inside too, Alex went under the saddler and reupholstered all the upholstery. Spoiler alert: I’ll show you the result in one of the following posts. It turned out really cool!

Viele hielten es für einen Scherz….

Many thought it was a joke…

…but Simon actually put a cat flap in the position where I usually lay my head 😉 😉Is this
a) for the pets that we always take with us?
b) so that I can get enough fresh air?
c) so that I can puke out of the car if I suddenly feel sick? (Stomach illness and such, of course
😉 )

From the important, now back to the unimportant things….or was it the other way around?
The reverse gear did not want to go in after Edewecht. Luckily, this could be fixed quickly by simply adding some clearence to the teeth.

This allowed the drive train to be installed again.

The entire drawbar support was of dubious stability and was upgraded accordingly. Now, instead of M12, M16 screws and decent material thicknesses are installed there.

Ein einfaches Überdruckventil also.

Last but not least, we wanted to see if we couldn’t get the boost pressure a little higher. We are currently only driving against a spring in the wastegate, which is pressed open in the manifold when the pressure reaches a certain level. A simple pressure relief valve. So why not build an adapter to set a desired pressure with a pressure reducer and then tension the spring until the valve is tight. You could even do that at an event in the pre-start area.

Well, another case of „built and thrown straight into the bin“. You just can’t set a clean opening pressure because the valve seat leaks terribly and you just don’t have the amount of gas to set it. Crap.

But even with the classic method of setting the opening pressure via the valve surface and the necessary force were sobering. There is a total of 0.2 bar between the slack and the tense spring…..only the path of the wastegate is only a few millimeters. Shit again.
So we just drove with the proven 1.5 bar setting.

Trecker rennfertig.

Ready to race tractor.
Now jump back to the beginning of the post
😉

I hope that I’ll be able to make a video with data one day. We’ll see.
What will definitely come and some of it is already on the tractor, that could be really fat. Has to do directly with the boost pressure and, as far as I know, has never been installed on a pulling tractor. But we don’t want to reveal too much just yet.

In other words: stay tuned!

Viersen 22: Viel Licht, Viel Schatten

Viersen 22: Lots of light, lots of shade (english below)

Hello friends of pulling sports! Yes, we still exist, even if we took some time with this post. Is there a life besides pulling, yes really 😉
The video with the data has already been shot, but I won’t be able to edit and upload it before the family vacation. So you still need a little patience… but it’s worth it.

Let’s do a quick run-through here. Early on Saturday morning, both tractors took to the track in the direction of Viersen. Well, now we had already secured the compressed air bottles so neatly (and the rest too) and then you won’t even be stopped by the police 😉
We were on the event site faster than expected and the tractors were unloaded at least as quickly. The usual procedure: prepare everything, driver’s briefing, technical inspection, fire protection clothing on, off to the scales…at 1 p.m. the garden pulling should start.

If we’re lazy with videos, count on Mr. Jo. He made a super cool compilation of our runs. Thanks a lot for this. With a click on the picture it starts.

In diesem Sinne: Bleibt dran!

Alex burned a pull into the track. Very cool!!! Oh yes, did you recognize the bottle from the last post? 😉 The video with the data is still to come, I just want to anticipate a little: well over 8,000 rpm, 2 bar boost pressure, 250ml methanol per second! Questions? 😉 😉

Result: Not only a super pull but also a now totally devalued rear axle.
😉 Who could have guessed?

Unfortunately, we couldn’t start in the finals… but it doesn’t matter. Alex made his first full pull!

Let’s get to the big tractor. Ok, you’ve already seen the video. Actually we were only at the start on Sundays with the 2.5t modified. After consultation with the organizer and the track inspector, we were allowed to start a demo run on Saturday afternoon. Actually, I thought that you can’t stall a tractor with a centrifugal clutch…but I can do it
😉 😉

Well, later it turned out to be error code 37 (between the ears). Explanation later in the video. However, the second attempt was the big hit. In the meantime, the tractor was so fast that I the gas back for a moment. It has to be said that the sledge was also very light. Just show pull. Nevertheless, everyone involved was very happy!

The joy lasted a whole 15 minutes. In the paddock we noticed that our left rear tire was getting flatter and flatter. Tirvalve torn off. Crap.

Believe us, we called everyone who came to mind that they might still have a set of tires that fit. It was of no use. The weekend was over for us on Saturday afternoon. Where there is a lot of light, there is also a lot of shadow. But better only the tube in the tire broken than the engine. So we could then devote ourselves to „hop-containing drinks of a refreshing nature“ and let the evening slowly fade away.

At this point, a big thank you to Team Viersen for the comfortable event and especially to the service tractor driver on the Deutz, who not only pushed us in front of the sledge on Saturday with a lot of commitment, but also steered us onto the mini saddle on Sunday! That’s fun!

So, let’s give a short preview here: The little Schluckspecht says goodbye to the competition for this year. The plan is to build a really cool axle over the winter so that we can send the tractor really angry over the track next year
😉

On the large tractor, of course, the repair of the tire and the reverser is on the agenda. We are in good spirits that we can start in Sonsbeck at the beginning of September!

With this in mind: Stay tuned!

Video aus Edewecht

Video from Edewecht (english below)

Was soll ich groß sagen?

What should I say? A video from Edewecht with very interesting findings 😉
With a click on the picture it starts
. (sorry, only in german)

And the next event is just around the corner. On 7th and 8th of august we want to be at the start with both(!) tractors in Viersen:

In diesem Sinne: Bleibt dran!

With this in mind: Stay tuned!

Edewecht 2022, mehr geht einfach nicht!

Edewecht 2022, more is simply not possible! (english below)

Hello friends of pulling sports! Was that awesome? Was that awesome? Until a few days before the event, it wasn’t even clear whether we would get the tractor transported, and finally the Schluckspechtzeraptor burned such a great train into the track. Crazy.
Mr. Jo was so kind and uploaded the video of our run in the usual perfect quality just a few hours after the event. Just look at it:

Naja, was soll ich sagen.

Ok, weniger Gelegenheit was kaputt zu machen. 😉

But let’s just start calmly and review the event a little. On Saturday morning we headed north on the autobahn with our still unfamiliar team. After just a few kilometers we noticed a larger police checkpoint at a rest area. „It’s good that they didn’t pull us out…preferably with television or something…hehehe“

Münster North it was time: „Please follow!“

Then our laughter got stuck in our throats…..especially when suddenly a television crew from ZDF stood in front of us
😉 😉

Well, what can I say. The control was actually very pleasant. The vehicle just got a fresh MOT a few days ago. We still had to tweak the load securing of the tractor a bit and the policeman didn’t find the solution to securing the compressed air cylinders that great. They were simply knotted to the table leg in the trailer
😉

When a solution was found for this and I promised solemnly that I would fix it properly before the next trip, I went back on the track after half an hour. Greetings at this point to the policeman checking, the brackets have already been ordered and the installation is of course documented here.
😉

When we arrived in Edewecht, we went straight to unloading and the driver briefing. Due to the very tight schedule, it was unfortunately not possible to start outside competition in the modified class (3.5t modified) and in the light modified (our class, formerly 2.5t modified) only one attamp should be driven. Ok, less opportunity to break something. 😉

During the further preparations we probably met our biggest hardcore fan Andy. I mean, if someone makes fan t-shirts of their own accord, you have to be a bit (positively) nailed:

Vielen Dank für die super Unterstützung! Sehr geil!

Motor an.

Thank you for the great support! Very cool!

The starting field overall and in our class in particular was just really cool. Truckpower, Dingo, MadMax, Herbie to name just a few guest starters. I mean, so far I only know Truckpower with his Alky Transmash (where does that sound familiar to me?
😉 ) only from Youtube and I also last saw the high-flyer Dingo in the diesel version. Of course, a lot had to be talked about in advance and you probably already guessed it. We just didn’t get around to shooting a video at the event. We were determined to do it, but it just didn’t work out.

Time flew by and we had to go to the scale. After Fuchtorf (the scales allegedly didn’t show enough) we were still worried that we were too heavy, but these fears vanished into thin air. With me as the driver, it was 2570kg in the end, that’s fine!

After the Superstocks the Light Modifieds were at the start. 13 registered starters raised hopes for a real spectacle in front of the sledge. Unfortunately, not all tractors ran smoothly. Some had to be reset which caused quite a mess.

So we were pulled forward by the service tractor and the flagman was already waving
😉 Don’t rush! Take it easy and do it right. Starting the engine turned out to be a bit more difficult than usual, the solenoid valve was probably stuck a little, but relief came after 3 attempts. Engine is running.

Go in and out in front of the sledge. For the first time with own power. The steering still takes a lot of getting used to (from one full deflection to the other full deflection there are 16 turns) and so the positioning in front of the sledge also resembled a circus act.
😉 😉 We’re still practicing…

Hook it up, forward gear, tighten the chain… Green flag!

What happened next is hard to imagine in a dream. The engine revs up, a short, violent vibration in the seat, the wheels turn and even before the 10m mark the front wheels were a bit in the air.

Brake a bit to the right to stay on track, slowly throttle down and then park the tractor at over 83m. SUPER COOL!

The engine is still running and there is a meter-high flame above the exhaust pipe. Just beautiful.

When hectic broke out at the edge of the train, it was clear that something was on fire. A lot of oil had squeezed out from under the valve covers, which then ignited something on the manifold.

At this point, a big thank you to Jannes Thien from wt_foto, who fetched a bucket so quickly that his drone even crashed. We will probably see some more pictures and videos of him and his father Wilfried Thien in the next YouTube video.

The return trip to the paddock was pure pleasure. The fans in Edewecht celebrated us like crazy! Thanks! That’s really fun!

YouTube is also the right keyword. Just because we didn’t shoot in Edewecht ourselves doesn’t mean we won’t make another video about the event. I’m telling you…..the run was a pure data generation machine!!
😉 😉 So far we haven’t been able to find any damage, which is really a good thing…but more on that in the next video.

Ok, what’s left to say? First and foremost, thanks to the many kind words and the support in the paddock and in the tribunes. That keeps the motivation high! Thanks also to the Edewecht team for organizing such a cool event!

In that sense I would say: See you in the next post and/or YouTube video and stay tuned!

PS: The return trip worked without any police checks!
😉
