Together what belongs together (english below)

Hello friends of pulling sports! Only 19 days to Fuchtorf and a lot to do. It’s time that what belongs together comes together.

Die Lagerschalen kommen rein….

The bearing shells come in….

…just like the driveshafts to the camshafts and the compressed air starter.

Simon hilft auch wieder kräftig mit. Mit reichlich Erfahrung vom R.E.M.E. (Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)

Simon also helps a lot again. With plenty of experience from R.E.M.E. (Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)

We went outside to transplant the crankshaft.

Da hängt das gute Stück…..

There hangs the good piece…..

..to then be placed in the engine. Oh yeah, whoever finds the grease stain in the middle of the lens….you’re welcome to keep it 😉 😉
Next time the camera is cleaned….

Die Hauptlagerböcke werden sortiert….

The main bearing blocks are sorted….

…vorbereitet…

…prepared…

…and then mounted. Since we couldn’t find any information about the necessary torque anywhere, I simply set it to 350Nm in 4 stages with plenty of MoS2 lubrication.

Since I can’t prove otherwise that the crankshaft rotates easily, here’s a testimony of light joy 😉 😉

Was hat Stefan wieder vergessen? Na klar…den Ölschleuderring *grml*
Aber dafür die Kurbelwelle wieder ausbauen? Ich bin doch nicht bekloppt….

What did Stefan forget? Of course…the oil slinger *grml*
But to mount this, remove the crankshaft again? I’m not crazy….

Wir haben doch eine Drehbank 😉 😉

We do have a lathe 😉 😉

The main sealing effect is achieved anyway by a labyrinth seal, as can also be found in the turbocharger.

Was haben wir hier? Das ist der Abtrieb zur Spritpumpe hin. Also jetzt.

What do we have here This is the output to the fuel pump. So now. It used to be the drive to the alternator. That will become important again.
But why did it all sized so terribly?

Habs mal rot eingekreist.

Like the entire engine, oil is supplied from the front housing cover. Via branches it goes via throttle elements (????) also to the former output for the alternator. Circled it in red.

Only the socket that is used there has neither a bore nor a groove that could take the oil over.
It’s probably from a different engine. In some cases the lubrication of the alternator drive was done by a separate oil line. In other words, the oil was not guided over the branch circled in red, but to a certain extent from the other side. If you mount it as shown, it won’t work.

The oil then comes through this hole. The red stopper? Sealant of course 😉 😉
(In this case it’s not so bad because the hole shouldn’t have any function anyway)

Da müssen wir was machen….. Zack…kommt ne Nut an die richtige Stelle.

We have to do something there….. Zack… comes a groove in the right place.

Since I only want some oil to get to the point to be lubricated and I definitely don’t want the oil pressure to go useless, only a 1.5mm hole was drilled.

Was haben wir noch?

This means that the drive to the big methanol pump is back in the engine…now even with lubrication. 😉

What do we still have?

Let’s move on to the cylinder banks. The optics of the liners already show that they certainly do not come from one engine.

And of course…they are also totally different in size….but what is more than four tenths of a millimeter? Pfffff….that’s splitting hairs…. 😉 😉

Yessssss … ok … four tenths difference is total crap, especially since the pistons all have the same size. Just what should we do please? It worked out before. And the new pistons are still a while away *cough*
So all the pistons come back exactly to the position where they were and we hope that it works like that. They definitely have enough running clearence. Original russian throwing fit 😉
The only change: We omit the lower oil scraper ring. On the one hand, some pistons almost had a seizure on the shirt, so more oil can’t hurt, on the other hand, the pistons can then be pushed more easily into the liners….

Der Motor zieht um…

The engine moves…

…to the oven in which the pistons are heated at 150°C.

The assembly of the pistons and piston pins went so smoothly that no more pictures were taken. If the piston pins are at room temperature, the 150°C of the piston is sufficient for absolutely problem-free assembly and you even have a few seconds to center the piston exactly in the middle.

In the name of saving energy, we used the residual heat to directly strip the motor mounts at 400°C….. what a stench 😉

So now it’s stupid again…

Anyone who has ever assembled a Transmash knows what it’s all about.

Die Zylinderbänke sollen montiert werden. Stefan -ganz schlau- hat in übergroße Kolbenringspanner investiert… Seht Ihr das Problem kommen?

The cylinder banks are to be mounted. Stefan – very clever – has invested in oversized piston ring tensioners… Do you see the problem coming?

Dank einiger Hilfsmittel und dem schwenkbaren Motorständer….

Thanks to a few tools and the swiveling engine stand….

*grml*

…the bank could be lowered onto the pistons without any problems. Just remove the piston ring clamps……..and…..yes exactly…you can’t open the crap things completely. Shit…. they are just made for „normal“ engines where you push the piston into the liner from above…. *grml*

Plan B…..also crap. Remove the tensioning mechanism from the piston ring tensioners and tighten differently. With the cable ties you just don’t get enough strength to tension the piston rings sufficiently….. Besides, what kind of work is that, please? With cable ties and stuff like that…..

Next day: Plan C 😉 😉

Proper hose clamps were delivered by the friendly pneumatic mail order company. In just enough width and above all completely dismountable!

Aller guten Dinge sind halt drei 😉

All good things come in threes 😉

Simon ölt noch mal ordentlich….

Simon lubricates properly….

…und schon ist Bank 1 wieder drauf!

…and Bank 1 is back on!

Genau wie Nummer 2. Alex dichtet noch mit der (nicht aushärtenden!!!) Dichtmasse ab.

Just like number 2. Alex still seals with the (non-hardening!!!) sealant.

With that, we are slowly leaving this post. The oil tank gets a bigger drain cock…..

….because the stiff SAE50 soup would otherwise take forever when it was cold until it ran out. Simultaneously Alex taught us a lesson…..

….wie geil Edelstahlgewinde mit einander fressen können 😉 😉 😉
Das ist wohl im Arsch 😉

…. how awesome stainless steel threads can seize together 😉 😉 😉
That thing is probably fucked up 😉

With that we are really at the end of the article. Here are a few spare parts for the so called „Honedieter“……

Keep your fingers crossed that we have everything ready for Füchtorf in time and then everything works as we imagine it…

With this in mind: Stay tuned (since Corona is over in my eyes, I will now refrain from the extra „Stay healthy“
😉 )
